Renee Montgomery agree's to terms with the Atlanta Dream
Multiple sources have confirmed to WNBAinsidr Wednesday night that the Minnesota Lynx guard Renee Montgomery will be making a splash in the Free Agent market and sign with the Atlanta Dream. Technically, teams and free agents can sign new deals starting Feb 1st so this will steal the headlines on Day 1 of free agency.
After we at the WNBAinsidr broke the news of this, reports flooded in. Shortly after the player herself posted the following to social media: "Where do I even begin .... I’ll start with Thank you. Thank you to the Minnesota Coaches, my teammates, the Fans, and the Minnesota Staff/Organization (Of Course Glen Taylor as well). I learned so much while i was there and will forever be grateful for the championships we won. Thank you for always treating me with respect and making me feel welcomed from Day 1. It’s hard to express my full gratitude for my time spent with you all and i told myself i wasn’t going to write a super long post but just know that you will always have a special place in my heart. 🙏🏾 - Big Mami"
Montgomery is a skilled vet that can help spread the court for a team that struggled to do so last season. To fit on the dream, Renee will be a good complement as a shooter to starting PG Layshai Clarendon. Last year as the Lynx fought their way to another WNBA championship, Renee was called on many times to step in for the injured Lindsey Whalen. Few will bring up or remember the growing pains that the Lynx had, but enough can't be said about how she helped guide that team to a ring. In 2017 Montgomery had 7ppg with 1.2apg in 17.1mpg. She also had 6 games with 17 or more points. The Dream has a new coach and is making moves. Layshai Clarendon, Renee Montgomery, Tiffany Hayes, Brittney Sykes, Imani Stafford, Elizabeth Williams and Angel McCoughtry!? That is a scary lineup no matter how you put it.
