Storm Hire Dan Hughes as Head Coach
Dan Hughes's retirement was short-lived, one year to be exact. As news broke late last night of the former coaches return to the league as a Head Coach, the WNBA world was full of mixed emotion. Hughes is a known name in the W as he spent 16 years in the league as a coach, most recently 11 years as the GM and HC of the San Antonio Stars. Dan has coached the most games in W history but has an unimpressive 237-287 career record, however. That record can be misleading considering his impressive ability to get teams to the playoffs. I for one am excited to see how he makes use of the headline-grabbing Storm roster.
Sources confirmed that the Storm wanted to move quickly and form their staff before the off-season began. Many fans of the league were low-key looking for a WNBA legend like Katie Smith or Becky Hammon to take the reins. Initial reports coming from Seattle indicate they wanted to go with someone with a little more history as a HC after the Jenny Boucek trial.... well we all know how that went.....
Best luck to the new coach and his team.
