Breaking: Storm Fire Jenny Boucek;
Kloppenburg named interim, effective immediately.
While announcing the breaking news Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis had this to say: “I believe new leadership is needed at this time to give our team the best chance at short and long term success...I am grateful for the passion and commitment Jenny has demonstrated throughout her time with the Seattle Storm. She has been an important part of our organization and we wish her well in the next steps of her career.”
Boucek has struggled to take her team to the next level. During her 3 years she led Seattle to a 36-58 record. Having a future HOF starter in Sue Bird along with two young super talents in Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd, Boucek's job has been in jeopardy all season. Just a few weeks ago the president and general manager Alisha Valvanis refused multiple times to vocalize confidence in the job security of Jenny through an interview with Summitthoops.
So far this year the Storm have not been able to reach anywhere near the level of success they had last year.
Gary Kloppenburg is in his second try with the Storm, having worked under then-head coach Lin Dunn with the Storm from 2000-02. He spent 2003 with Phoenix, then resuming ties with Dunn in Indiana (2008-11) before embarking on a head-coaching role with Tulsa in 2012 and 2013. He was an assistant with the Sparks in 2014 and he joined Stephanie White’s staff with the Fever in 2015-16.
Excited to see what insight Storm fans will have into the future of this team.
