The Sparks Win gets Graphic

Candace Parker could smell WNBA playoff records with her dominant first quarter. Diana Taurasi gave a vintage performance, leading her team with cuts to the basket and crazy fade away jumpers. Every move the Mercury had just wasn't enough. The Sparks now have a commanding 2-0 series lead and are eying a sweep to get back to the Finals. Here are three key stats that decided the game, courtesy of Hoopsviz!

The Mercury kept the game close in the first quarter and were able to force the Sparks to take bad shots from the outside. As the second quarter rolled around, the Sparks improved their defense and limited shots at the rim. With both teams unable to knock down three pointers, this defensive turn-around gave the Sparks a commanding lead into the half.

The Sparks were able to make up for their slow start early by crashing the boards and grabbing 7(!) offensive rebounds in the first. These second chances kept them in the game until their shots started to fall.

The Mercury knew going into the series that that they couldn't afford to make any mistakes if they wanted to advance. Giving up 12 steals and 7 more turnovers and gifting the ball to this offensive juggernaut proved fatal.
