Rookie of the week: A’ja Wilson, Las Vegas Aces
Wilson’s consistent dominance has earned her back-to-back rookie of the week honors. Her 25 points and 16 rebounds helped the Aces pull away against the Storm, who are one of the best teams in the league. Her performance helped end her team’s two-game losing streak. Wilson has lived up to all expectations and is averaging 20.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Wilson has been the Super Woman of this new Aces franchise as they look to turn things around.
Who’s having success?
Although Wilson’s teammate Ji-Su Park’s effort may not always show up on the stat sheet, she has been an X-factor for this Aces team. At 15.2 minutes per game, she has been a huge factor on the defensive end. Park and Wilson complement each other well in the paint making it hard for opponents to score over them. Park has the task of guarding some of the best centers in the league and has held her own. In their win against the Storm, Park grabbed 12 rebounds (5 offensive) and blocked 2 shots while shooting 60 percent from the field. Park was the X-factor that helped the Aces take the victory.
As the minutes have increased for the Fever’s Victoria Vivians, so have her numbers. She is now averaging 7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. In their first win against the Dream, she was the Fever’s leading scorer with 21 points making 5 of 8 three-pointers. Due to injuries, Vivians has started the last three games and has made an huge impact.
