Indiana Fever- (The State of the Fan)

So this season has been quite a disappointing season for us, IMO. After Tamika Catchings’retirement last season & a new coach in Pokey Chatman, I knew the Fever would take a little step backwards. Even with these realistic expectations,  I didn't think it would be more of a backward leap.

We're so inconsistent. Our defense is wayyy below Indiana standards. The Fever are known for great defense. We've won many games in the past seasons through good defense even when our offense was stagnant. But this season, not only is our offense struggling but so is our defense. Pokey Chapman was fired from Chicago partly because of her team’s weak defensive showing. This has followed her across state lines to Indy.

Another issue I see for us is our post play. We haven't really had much of an inside presence in a few seasons. Erlana Larkins came to Indiana & has done her best being our center. But she's only 6'2-6'3. She's undersized and needs some help down in the post against other big men. I hope we make some moves to get a powerful big pretty soon. I know we signed Jenn Hamson & I hope she starts jelling pretty well with our team.

Briann January & Erica Wheeler are great in the backcourt. I just wish January would be more aggressive & look to score more. I think they could be a dynamic duo for years to come. Candice Dupree has come from PHX to IND & has tried her best to make up for Tamika Catchings' statistical absence. She's done a pretty good job at it and earned herself an All Star nod in the process.

Personally, I feel like we need some coaching changes. Some things are slacking in that department. I wish we'd utilize Jazmon Gwathmey and Achonwa more. It sucks to see Marissa Coleman struggling most of this season. She’s been in an awful slump most of the season and her outside shooting would go a long way in helping the offense.

We still have an outside shot at making the playoffs. Last night’s huge win against the Lynx proved that we have the talent to compete. It will be an exciting August in Indianapolis as the Fever try to show that someone other than Catchings can lead this team.
