Full-Court Press: Our Weekly WNBA Recap
By Cayla McMorris
The Mercury have won their last seven games. They are on a hot streak and everything seems to be clicking for them right now.
The Sky and Sun are both currently on three-game losing streaks.
Performance of the Week:
Brittney Griner, Mercury: 19 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks in win vs. Aces.
Game of the Week:
Rookie Victoria Vivians scored a season-high 21 points in the Fever’s first win against the Dream. This was the second time these two teams matched up this week. The Dream took the first game by five points in a 72-67 win. But this game was all about the Fever as they outscored the Dream by 20 points in the third giving them a 32-point victory. Rookie Kelsey Mitchell netted 19 points to help her team in their first win. Not only were things clicking for the Fever offensively, but defensively they held the Dream’s leading scorer, Tiffany Hayes, to only 7 points.
Beast of the East:
Despite the Sun losing their last three games to the Mystics, Storm and Mercury, they are still in first place with a 7-4 record.
Wild, Wild West:
The Sparks are back on top with a 7-2 record and the Storm, who were in first place last week, have dropped to third behind the Mercury.
What To Watch:
On Thursday June 28, the top team in the West, the Sparks, take on the third-best team in the West, the Storm. These two teams match up well against each other from guard play to post play.
