The importance of Candice Dupree

Candice Dupree re-signing allows the Indiana Fever a star to build around.

When you talk about stars in the WNBA there are few who are brighter than Candice Dupree. The 11 year pro out of Temple is one of the elite players of the league.

In her career, Dupree has played the 26th most games all-time with 380. In these games, Dupree has achieved some amazing numbers. Her 5,602 points have Dupree sitting in 10th all-time. This is a scoring average of 14.74 point per game which is 22nd all-time.

Likewise, Dupree is one of the best rebounders the league has ever seen. On the offensive glass, Dupree sits in 19th all-time with 667 rebounds. On the defensive glass, Dupree is even better. She sits in sixth all-time with 1,902 defensive boards.

This means Dupree sits in ninth all-time in rebounds with 2,569. This is an average of 6.76 rebounds per game which is good enough for 21st all-time.

However, Dupree is also one of the best players in WNBA history in shot-blocking. Her 275 blocks has her in 21st all-time as well.

The best part for the Indiana Fever is Dupree does not appear to be slowing down. Last season, she averaged 15.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

These numbers are going to be required to keep the Fever relevant for the next season or two as they rebuild.
